With rounded spreading sides and slightly everted lip; wedge-shaped foot. The piece is rather heavily potted. Inside is an all-over design painted in enamels of the famille verte palette with three or four tones of green, light tomato red, an ochreous yellow, brownish aubergine and a rather opaque violet-blue, the drawing being executed in black. A phoenix perches on an old rock from behind which grow branches of flowering prunus and peony and sprays of fruiting peach and (?) pomegranate; three birds flit among the branches. The outside is plain. Inscribed in underglaze blue within a double square on the base is a shop mark.
