Stoneware and porcelain imported from China have always occupied a place of honour in the tea ceremony in Japan, and frequently served as models for imitations by local kilns. In addition to these Chinese pieces, known as karamono 唐物, objects from Korea and South-East Asia were also highly valued and avidly collected.
