Imperial Yellow Monochrome Glaze Ware 黃釉瓷器

Porcelain from the Jingdezhen kilns 景德鎮窯, Jiangxi Province 江西省, Qing dynasty 清代 (1644-1911).

According to strictly applied sumptuary laws, the colour yellow was reserved under the Qing for the personal use of the emperor and his entourage. Ceramics of this colour were used not only in imperial tableware, but also in ritual sacrifices offered at the altar of the Temple of Earth. This particular hue of yellow is obtained by adding a tiny amount of iron oxide.
