“Sang de boeuf”, “flambé” and blue-glazed wares 郎窯紅釉、窯變釉與淺藍釉瓷器

Porcelain from the Jingdezhen kilns 景德鎮窯, Jiangxi Province 江西省, Qing dynasty 清代 (1644-1911).

“Sang de boeuf” glazes are known in Chinese as “Lang kiln red” 郎窯紅. It appears that this shade of deep red was invented at Jingdezhen during the period when Lang Tingji 郎庭极, governor of the province from 1705 to 1712, was also supervisor of the kilns. Flambé glazes are obtained through the alteration of copper red to which spots of cobalt blue have been added.
