This exhibition of Japanese prints from the Baur Collection presents some of the many leisure pursuits of the inhabitants of Edo (modern-day Tokyo) in the 18th and early 19th centuries. The kabuki theatre, courtesans from the pleasure quarters, strolls along the banks of the Sumida, the firework festival over the Ryôgoku Bridge, and visits to Buddhist and Shinto sanctuaries are some of the themes represented in this selection of 85 prints and triptychs signed by Keisai Eisen (1790-1848) and four of the great masters of the Utagawa school : Hiroshige (1797-1858), Kunisada (1786-1864), Kuniyoshi (1797-1861), and Toyokuni (1769-1825).
