The Fascination of Ceramics
Masterpieces of Modern Japanese Pottery from the Gisela Freudenberg Collection
19 May 2006 - 20 August 2006
-
During the 20th century no other country had such a decisive influence on the world of ceramics as did Japan.
The extraordinary developments in Japanese ceramics since the height of Japonisme around 1900 have marked generations of potters, both in the West and in the East.
Over the course of more than thirty years, Gisela Freudenberg has brought together a remarkable collection of great diversity. It clearly expresses the characteristics of individual artists, whether they be “Living National Treasures”, working in the traditions of the “Six Ancient Kilns”, or are counted among the great sculptural ceramists.
Gisela Freudenberg’s collection will be exhibited for the first time in Switzerland.
